Education Manager
Lauren Lockhart currently serves as the Education Manager at the David Mathews Center for Civic Life, where she leads the organization’s educational programming, including the Jean O’Connor-Snyder Internship Program, Innovators in Civic Education Fellowship, and the K-3 Reading Program. Previously, she held the roles of McKenzie Civic Fellow and Education Coordinator, showcasing her commitment to civic engagement and public life in Alabama. In her role, Lauren works to support students and educators across the state through meaningful, community-centered programming.
Originally from a small neighborhood in Bethlehem, Georgia, Lauren earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with a minor in Peace, Justice, and Ecology. During her time at UAB, she pursued coursework focused on social justice topics, research methods, and government systems, supplemented with select graduate-level courses in the Master of Public Administration program, which reflects her deep interest in the nonprofit and public sectors.
When she’s not at the Mathews Center, you can find Lauren spending time with her cat, Goose, enjoying the outdoors with a good book, crafting, or exploring Birmingham’s music, thrift, and food scenes.
